What’s unique about adult orthodontics?
An adult’s jawbones are no longer growing while a child’s jaws are still pliable, so there are many issues that are more difficult to correct in adults. If there is a jaw discrepancy, teeth may need to be extracted. In more severe cases, orthognathic surgery may be necessary. Other issues to consider for adults is they are more likely to have gum recession or bone loss from periodontal disease. Many adults may also have missing teeth or crowns on their teeth. All of these issues will need to be taken into account, but does not preclude an adult from accomplishing the beautiful smile they have always desired.
Treatment Options for Adults
Frial Orthodontics offers different treatment options from limited treatment to comprehensive treatment. Limited treatment can range from a retainer to Invisalign Express to partial braces. Comprehensive treatment can range from standard treatment to extensive treatment involving orthognathic surgery. Dr. Frial is well versed in the different types of treatment. We offer traditional metal braces, clear braces, and clear aligners like Invisalign®.
It is always important to follow Dr. Frial’s instructions on hygiene, appliance wear, and visit frequency to achieve a successful outcome. You should also continue to see your dentist every six months or sooner if recommended to maintain the health of the teeth, gums, and bone.
