Traditional Metal Braces
Traditional metal braces have been around for decades. They are the most common type of braces, especially for teens and younger children. Since they are made of high-grade stainless steel, they are the most durable of the different types of braces. Many of our patients add colorful elastic ties to create a unique experience.
Self-Ligating Braces
Self-Ligating braces can use metal or clear brackets. Instead of the elastic ties, a special clip is used to engage the wire, which in turn reduces the friction on the teeth. The benefit of the clip versus the elastic ties is it allows for fewer adjustments and longer intervals between appointments at our Laguna Niguel orthodontic office.
Clear (Ceramic) Braces
Clear (ceramic) braces are similar to traditional braces, but are translucent. They are designed to blend in with the natural color of your teeth, making them less visible. Many of our older teens and adults prefer clear braces for cosmetic reasons. Clear braces are slightly larger than the traditional metal braces. However, Dr. Frial uses 3M Clarity™ Advanced clear braces, which are one of the smallest ceramic brackets on the market.
Clear Aligners
Clear aligners, including Invisalign® and ClearCorrect™, are a series of clear plastic trays used to straighten your teeth instead of braces. Clear aligners are nearly invisible so they’re very cosmetic. They are also removable, so eating, brushing, and flossing can continue as normal. Furthermore, they tend to be more comfortable than braces.
